Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The 2015-16 USHL Regular Season Awards were announced this week, and two former Phantoms have been recognized for outstanding campaigns.
Forward Cam Morrison was named USHL Rookie of the Year after leading all rookies in scoring with 66 points (34G-32A) in 60 games. Morrison's 66 points were second overall in league scoring, only trailing USHL Player of the Year Rem Pitlick. Morrison also finished third overall in goal scoring, leading all rookies with 34 tallies this season.
"Playing in the USHL this year was unbelievable. The way I was treated as a player, as well as a person, was world class. Looking back on the year, I'm very thankful for all the staff and my teammates who were there to support me. I believe this league developed me into a college ready player for next year, and no other league in the world could do as much as the USHL did for me this year," said Morrison.
Morrison is ranked 46th overall on NHL Central Scouting's North American Skater list for the upcoming 2016 NHL Draft. He will play college hockey for the University of Notre Dame beginning this fall.
Phantoms defenseman Luke McInnis was also honored by the USHL, being named to the All-Rookie 2nd team. McInnis was second amongst Phantoms defensemen in scoring with 28 points (6G-22A) in 58 games.
"It was a great experience playing in the USHL this season, and the league has really prepared me for the next level. I'm thankful for my teammates and coaches who helped me achieve this success, and I will never forget the memories we made in Youngstown," McInnis said.
McInnis is ranked 141st overall on NHL Central Scouting's North American Skater list for the upcoming 2016 NHL Draft. He will play college hockey for the Boston College Golden Eagles beginning this fall. McInnis was also named MVP of the 2015 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game this past season as well.
