Edquist Named to USHL All-Rookie 1st Team

MADISON, WI - The United States Hockey League named Madison Capitols goaltender Ryan Edquist to the USHL All-Rookie 1st Team as determined by a vote of League general managers. The USHL also announced Youngstown Phantoms forward Cameron Morrison as Rookie of the Year, and the USHL All-Rookie 2nd Team, both determined by a vote of League general managers.

USHL All-Rookie 1st Team:

F- Cam Morrison (Youngstown Phantoms)

F- Collin Adams (Muskegon Lumberjacks)

F- Eeli Tolvanen (Sioux City Musketeers)

D- Andrew Peeke (Omaha Lancers)

D- Jacob Bryson (Green Bay Gamblers)

G- Ryan Edquist (Madison Capitols)

Edquist, 18, collected a 9-11-1-2 record, a 3.02 goals-against-average, and .906 save percentage in 27 games with the Capitols during the 2015-16 season. The 6-foot, 170-pound netminder ranked first among rookie goaltenders in the USHL with at least 1200 minutes with his goals-against-average of 3.02, and a save percentage of .906.

Edquist backstopped the Lakeville North High School team to a perfect 31-0-0 record during the 2014-15 season, and helped the team win the 2015 Minnesota Class AA title. He also spent two seasons with Shattuck-St. Mary's School.

The netminder announced on Monday that he has signed a letter of intent with Boston College and plans to suit up for them this fall.

Morrison played in all 60 of Youngstown's games this season, scoring 34 goals and 32 assists in that span, both of which led the team. He finished tied for second in the league in scoring with Cedar Rapids forward Ross Colton. Morrison's 34 goals and 66 points led all rookies, while his 32 assists ranked third among first-year players.
