Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Two 16-year-old Waterloo Black Hawks were named to the United States Hockey League All-Rookie Second Team on Tuesday.
Forward Shane Bowers and defenseman Mikey Anderson have each been fixtures in the Waterloo lineup throughout the season. Their performance impressed opponents; annual USHL awards are determined by a vote of team general managers.
Bowers dressed for 56 games and recorded 15 goals and 18 assists. His 33 points ranked sixth overall for the Hawks and ninth on a league-wide basis among rookies. Bowers recorded game-winning goals on January 9th in overtime against the Tri-City Storm and February 26th versus the Sioux City Musketeers. Waterloo selected Bowers during the third round in Phase I of the 2015 USHL Draft.
The Hawks tendered Anderson prior to the draft last spring. The University of Minnesota-Duluth recruit was in the Waterloo lineup for all but three games. He contributed a goal and 15 assists and was also +6. Anderson's play during the Clark Cup playoffs has also given the Hawks a boost. He has tallied three goals (tied for second on the team), and his even plus/minus mark ranks third among Waterloo defensemen.
This is the third consecutive season a pair of Waterloo Black Hawks have received All-Rookie accolades. Brock Boeser and Tom Novak were named to the 2014/15 USHL All-Rookie Team. During the 13 seasons that the USHL has named an All-Rookie squad, 13 Black Hawks have now been chosen.
