Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen today announced a donation of $18,861.80 to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank with funds collected through two sources.

This week the Hitmen held an online game worn and game issued jersey auction from Sunday's 16th annual Petro-Canada Teddy Bear Toss.

Petro-Canada is proudly owned by Suncor Energy.

Net proceeds from the auction totaled $5,334 which will be donated to the CBC Suncor Energy Food Bank Drive.

In addition, last Friday fans were asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the Hitmen game in the 3rd annual City TV / Kraft Shake Up the Dome.

Fans brought 6,880 pounds of food or the cash equivalent of $13,160. An additional $367.80 was donated in cash for a grand total of $13,527.80.

"Demand for emergency food hampers is 57% greater than before the recession," explains Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank Manager of Community Resource Development Nollind van Bryce. "We are very grateful for the support of the Hitmen Hockey club and their Fans as every $1 raised distributes $4 to individuals and families in need."

The Hitmen will play their final game before a 10 day Christmas Break tonight when they host the Kelowna Rockets.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster locations or by calling Customer Service at 403-777-4646.
