Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron designated hitter Seth Caddell had his first professional hit and RBI on a go-ahead, seventh-inning single to break a 2-2 tie, and four RubberDucks relievers combined for six scoreless innings to defeat the Erie SeaWolves, 4-2, earning the club's first win of the season Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.
Turning Point
A 2-2 tie remained from the bottom of the second inning to the top of the seventh inning, when RubberDucks right fielder Julian Escobedo hit a one-out double to left field, and Caddell lined a 2-2 pitch to right-center field for a 3-2 lead. Signed by Cleveland as a free agent in 2021, he had only two at bats in the 2021 regular season and was playing his third professional game Sunday, starting as the designated hitter for the second time in the series.
Mound Presence
In his Double-A debut, RubberDucks right-hander Tanner Burns allowed a first-inning home run to Erie catcher Dillon Dingler and a second-inning run on center fielder Eric De La Rosa's RBI double. He struck out four batters, walked two, and allowed four hits in three innings. Left-hander Andrew Misiaszek pitched two scoreless innings. Right-hander Jerson Ramírez worked around two hits in a scoreless sixth inning to earn the win. Right-hander Kyle Marman pitched a perfect seventh inning, and right-hander Nic Enright struck out the last four batters of the game in a perfect two-inning save.
Duck Tales
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Akron took its first lead of the season when third baseman Victor Nova and Caddell each walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Left fielder Will Brennan capped a 10-pitch battle with SeaWolves right-hander Austin Bergner on a two-run single to center field for a 2-1 lead. Erie tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
