Busy Holiday Weekend for OKC Barons

December 10, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons will be in a festive mood for two games December 12 and 13 at the Cox Convention Center.

Friday, December 12 is Barons Night with $2 draft beer and $1 hot dogs from 6-8 p.m. Following the game, fans can come to the ice to shoot a puck from center ice into an empty net. Those who are successful will receive a coupon from the Barons and Schwab Meats for a FREE holiday ham.

Saturday, December 13 is the Barons annual Winterfest and Teddy Bear Toss Night. The Barons are looking for new and gently used stuffed animals for donation to EMSA. When the Barons score their first goal against the Grand Rapids Griffins on December 13, fans will be asked to throw their stuffed animals toward the ice. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to EMSA for use in breaking the ice with children who have been involved in a traumatic incident.

Both games feature an opportunity to own a festive piece of holiday wear decorated by the Barons players. For the fourth straight season, Barons players are decorating small Christmas trees in a manner that is appealing to them. Some of the more interesting designs from seasons past have included an iPod and iTunes gift cards, trees dedicated to fishing and to golf. The decorated trees will be on display on the upper concourse near The Edge team store where fans can place bids on the trees. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Barons Buddies Program.

Following the game December 13, the Barons host a 24-hour skating festival at the Devon rink. The skating festival features an opportunity to skate with Barons players, coaches and staff, skating demonstrations by Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club, hockey games with the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association and much more.

Approximately one hour after the conclusion of the game December 13 against the Grand Rapids Griffins, Barons players begin their round-the-clock skate. Fans are encouraged to come and skate with their favorite players at any time during the event. Admission to the event is free, while skate rental is $8. Donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to Oklahoma City Youth Hockey.

The final event of WinterFest is an outdoor hockey game featuring players from the 8-and-under division of the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association. Faceoff for this game is Sunday, December 14 is 6 p.m. This game will have all the trappings of a complete game including the presentation of the colors by the Canadian AWACS Detachment from Tinker Air Force Base, national anthem and music provided by DJ Jeremy Miller, intermissions with the Barons mascot Derrick the Mountain Lion and the Barons Ice Pack. The teams will be coached by the Barons coaching staff.

Faceoff for both games is 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. A holiday pack is a great gift for the hockey fan in your life. For just $89, you can purchase six undated flex tickets and a 64 oz. Barons Mega Mug. Call the Barons' front office at 405-232-4625 for more information.
