Another Vasilevskiy Shutout, Crunch Halt Falcons' Streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Crunch (14-7-3-0) ended the Springfield Falcons (17-8-1-0) 11-game winning streak, and extended their own to four behind the netminding of Andrei Vasilevskiy, who recorded his second consecutive shutout Wednesday at MassMutual Center, a 2-0 Crunch win.

Vasilevskiy stopped 26 shots and has played 143:16 without allowing a goal. Two shutouts in two starts boosts the rookie's win total to seven and shrunk his goals-against average to 2.44. The Syracuse win ties the season series between the Northeast Division foes at two wins apience with four to play.

Nikita Nesterov provided the early offense for Syracuse, scoring the first goal of the game 18:01 into the first, a slap shot from the left circle. Mike Angelidis and Vladislav Namestnikov assisted on the opening goal, which was scored immediately following a Crunch man-advantage.

Namestnikov has six points in his first three games back with Syracuse, and Angelidis tallied his 12th point of the season.

Mike Blunden returned to the Crunch lineup for the first time since a Nov. 12 injury against Albany. He took a puck to the face in the second period Wednesday, but returned halfway through the third, and scored an empty-net goal in the final minute, his third goal and sixth point in his 13th game.

Syracuse stopped all three Springfield power play opportunities, but failed to score on any of their own chances, going 0-for-4.

The Crunch are back at the War Memorial Arena Friday to face the Hershey Bears on Stanley Steemer Tired Teddy Toss night. Friday is the third of four contests between the teams this year. Syracuse won the first two games by a combined total of 9-2.
