Bruins Bounce IceCaps in Final Home Game of 2014
December 10, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The Providence Bruins scored three goals in the third period en route to a 4-1 victory over the St. John's IceCaps on Wednesday night at Mile One Centre.
John Albert scored the lone goal for St. John's as the IceCaps remain winless in five games against Providence this season.
The teams had physical play on their minds right from the opening faceoff as Jordan Hill dropped the gloves with the Bruins' Tyler Randell just six seconds into the game.
The first period alone included three fights, including spirited tilts between Will O'Neill and Cory Kane as well as JC Lipon against Tommy Cross.
Bruins defenceman Ben Youds opened the scoring late in the first period as he walked into a one-timer from the blue line and beat IceCaps starter Connor Hellebuyck at 18:16.
John Albert tied the game for the IceCaps near the end of the second period as he was in the right place at the right time to locate the puck in a goalmouth scramble and stuff it behind Bruins starter Malcolm Subban with 56 seconds left in the frame.
The Bruins surged ahead with 12:49 remaining in regulation as Ethan Werek took a pass in the high slot and rifled home his first of the year high on Hellebuyck's blocker side.
Providence pushed the lead to 3-1 just over two minutes later as Jordan Caron located the puck in a sea of bodies in front of Hellebuyck and managed to sneak it behind the goaltender with 10:16 left in the contest.
Matt Lindblad scored into an empty net in the final minute to seal the deal for the Bruins, who have now won three straight games.
Subban earned the win with 26 saves, while Hellebuyck finished the night stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced.
The IceCaps will now hit the road for seven consecutive games, starting with a pair of afternoon games in Toronto against the Marlies on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14.
