Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - He's back.

Former Sioux Falls Canaries Team MVP Burt Reynolds is rejoining the Birds after a trade with the St. Paul Saints, the Canaries announced Tuesday.

The Birds acquired Reynolds from the Saints for the reversionary rights to catcher Adrian Nieto and a player to be named later. Nieto's contract was purchased by the Miami Marlins on June 22.

A 30th-round draft pick by the Washington Nationals in 2006, Reynolds has suited up for the Rays and Mariners systems, making it as high as AA in 2015. He owns a career slash line of .248/.311/.423 in 341 career minor-league games.

Reynolds has played in the American Association since 2016, a year he split between the Texas AirHogs and Laredo Lemurs.

Reynolds arrived in Sioux Falls in 2017, and made his presence felt quickly. Reynolds hit .283/.348/.468 with 24 doubles, 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 2017. He also stole 34 bases (second on the Birds) in 40 attempts.

Reynolds played 33 games with the Canaries in 2018 before heading to St. Paul midseason. He posted a slash line of .265/.349/.494 with 19 home runs and 55 between the Canaries and Saints last year.

Reynolds rejoined the Saints for 2019, and has gotten off to a solid start to the season. Reynolds has slashed .231/.329/.381 with three home runs and 17 RBIs over 37 games with the Saints.

The Sioux Falls Canaries start up a 10-game homestand this Friday, July 5, at 7pm. Friday features a special Fourth of July Weekend edition of Friday Fireworks, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. Saturday is Ladies Night at the Birdcage. Ladies can buy a special VIP ticket package for the game, including the chance to dig up a pair of $2,000 diamond earrings on the field after the game. More info at sfcanaries.com/DiamondDig.
