
Goldeyes Comeback Falls Short

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-18) lost 6-5 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.
The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-out, RBI single from Devan Ahart. Brennan Metzger's two-out, RBI single in the top of the fourth made it 2-0.
In the top of the fifth, Correlle Prime doubled home the RedHawks' third run. Two batters later, Leobaldo Pina hit a two-run home run to left-centre.
Winnipeg battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Martin reached leading off on an error charged to second baseman TJ Bennett. After Cody Young singled through the left side, Jordan Hovey lined a triple to left-centre that scored Martin and Young. Hovey then scored on a groundball to second from Alex Perez.
In the bottom of the sixth, James Harris laid down a bunt single with one out, stole second base, and scored two batters later on a two-out, RBI double down the right field line from Martin.
The RedHawks re-extended the lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Pina.
Hovey hit a bloop single down the left field line leading off the home seventh, and eventually scored on a Willy Garcia two-out, RBI single to centre.
Winnipeg put the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the ninth before RedHawks' reliever Joe Filomeno closed out the game. Filomeno recorded the final six outs and earned his second save of the year.
RedHawks' starter Ryan Williams (3-0) picked up the win, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits in five and two-thirds innings. Williams walked none and struck out three.
Goldeyes' starter Ryan Johnson (1-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits in five innings. Johnson walked seven and struck out one.
Parker French and Victor Capellan each worked a scoreless inning of relief. Tyler Hill, Willy Garcia, Young, and Hovey each had two hits. The RedHawks (29-15) have won 14 of their last 15.
