St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Consider this the first official slump of the season for the St. Paul Saints. In a game suspended by rain from Monday night, the St. Paul Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead when play resumed, but couldn't hold on losing 4-2 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at CHS Field in front of 7,079.

With the game scoreless through three, play was halted on Monday night due to rain. The Saints took two innings before they got on the board as they grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Chesny Young led off with a double to right-center and was sacrificed over to third. Max Murphy then deposited a home run over the right field wall, his league leading 13th.

With the number two pitcher in the league on the mound for the Saints, Eddie Medina, the Saints felt confident. The Saltdogs, however, would get to him in the sixth when Tyler Pfeffer led off with a walk. John Sansone doubled him to third and Randolph Oduber followed with an RBI single making it 2-1. Cody Regis tied the game with an RBI single to right, but Medina was able to retire the next three to avoid any further damage.

The game remained tied until the eighth when Medina walked the leadoff hitter Regis. Curt Smith then hit a hanging slider over the left field wall, his seventh of the season, that proved to be the difference.

Jeremy Martinez, who entered play by reaching base safely in 34 consecutive games, had his streak come to an end. He was robbed in the fourth on a diving play by Regis at third and then again in the sixth on a leaping catch by Pfeffer in front of the left field wall.
