Ottawa Lynx News Release
Lynx starter Brian Burres gave up only three hits over 7.2 shutout innings, leading the Lynx to a 1-0 shutout win over Durham on Thursday Night. Catcher Brandon Marsters supplied all of the Lynx offense with a solo homer, while RHP Julio Manon struck out the side in the 9th to collect his 15th save.
The win improves Ottawa's record to 36-38 on the season.
Player Of The Game: Lynx starter Brian Burres picked up his team-leading 6th win with 7.2 innings of shutout baseball.
Game Recap: In a terrific pitcher's duel, Ottawa's Brian Burres and Durham's J.P. Howell worked into the 5th with the game scoreless. Ottawa catcher Brandon Marsters gave the Lynx the only run they would need on this night, blasting a two-out solo homer in the 5th (his 5th of the year) to put Ottawa up 1-0. It was all pitching from there, as Burres mowed down opposition batters, leaving the game with two outs in the top of the 8th. Eddy Rodriguez recorded the final out of the 8th before closer Julio Manon came on in the 9th. Manon was greeted with a leadoff double by B.J. Upton, but would then bear down to strike out the side in the 9th to end the threat and collect his 15th save in the 1-0 win.
Next Game: The Lynx and Bulls meet in the second game of this four games series on Friday. First pitch of Friday night's game is scheduled for 7:05 pm
