Burlington Bees News Release

The Burlington Bees brought 12 men to the plate in the eighth, scoring seven runs, which helped them defeat the Great Lakes Loons 10-3 on Friday evening at Dow Diamond.

Burlington (33-53, 7-14) has seen opponents score runs late against them in the second half, but tonight the Bees turned the table on the Loons (41-51, 14-8). 12 men came to the plate in a huge eighth inning that saw RBIs from Wade Hinkle, Sandy Martinez, Chevy Clarke, Sherman Johnson, Garrett Cannizaro and Andrew Ray. James Campbell (0-1) allowed four runs in one-third of an inning, while Luis Meza surrendered three of his own in two-thirds of an inning.

Great Lakes got the scoring started in the third, bringing home two runs against Pat Lowery. Lowery struggled in the third, surrendering two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. He was pulled with two outs in the inning and Daniel Hurtado was able to get James Baldwin to line out to end the threat.

Hurtado was absolutely sensational in his Bees debut, hurling 3.1 hitless innings, striking out two. His incredible pitching allowed the Bees to come back to tie the game in the sixth. Cannizaro led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Ray. Ray later scored on one of the five wild pitches thrown by Loons pitchers.

Joey Krehbiel (3-5) tossed the final three innings for Burlington, picking up his third victory of the year. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits and a walk, while punching out two batters.

Burlington took two of three from Great Lakes, and will now head to Lansing to begin a three-game series that will begin at 7:05 eastern time on Saturday evening. Tyler DeLoach will take the mound for Burlington, while Daniel Norris will toe the rubber for Lansing.
