Great Lakes Loons News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa - Left-hander Alexi Rivera hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning off Loons lefty reliever Rob McDonnell and Burlington turned a close lead into a sizeable margin of victory in a 6-2 decision on Wednesday night at Community Field.

Burlington batted around in the eighth inning and ruined McDonnell's Loons debut. Righty starter Isaac Anderson (L, 5-5) suffered the defeat for the Loons (8-11, 37-52), who dropped to 0-7 on the road against the Midwest League Western Division this season.

The Bees (8-12; 40-50) snapped a three-game losing streak and another three-game losing streak to the Loons, who swept Burlington in a three-game set at Dow Diamond in 2015.

Anderson and the Loons fell behind in the third inning when Burlington belted three straight hits, including two doubles, to take a 2-0 lead with two outs in the frame. Great Lakes only run against Burlington righty starter Jamie Barria (W, 8-4) crossed on a Brendon Davis RBI single in the top of the fourth to make the score 2-1. Barria, a Midwest League All-Star, tossed five innings and allowed five hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Loons lone All-Star this season, righty Dennis Santana, made his second appearance out of the bullpen this season and allowed one run on three hits with three walks over two innings of work. He did not factor into the decision.

Burlington's saves leader, righty Zach Hartman, notched his 13th save of the season with two innings on the rubber. Lefty Saige Jenco, in his Loons debut, singled and drove in a run off Hartman in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 6-2.

Dodgers prospect Omar Estevez singled in the fourth inning to extend his hit streak to 10 straight, the longest streak of the season for a Loons batter.

The Loons and Bees meet again for the middle leg of their three-game set Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Pregame coverage starts at 7 p.m. on ESPN 100.9-FM.

The Great Lakes Loons, hosts of the 2017 Midwest League All-Star Game, have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007 and are in their 10th season. For tickets and more information about the Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
