Bulls Fall 12-7 At Buffalo, Drop 3 Of 4 To Bisons

(Buffalo, NY) Angel Chavez homered in the second inning to give Durham an early 2-0 lead, but Buffalo's outpowered the Bulls in a 12-7 win over Durham on Friday night.

Aneury Rodriguez (2-1), who had not allowed a run in his first two Triple-A starts, surrendered a homer in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half at 2-1. A third inning error led to two unearned runs and a 3-2 Buffalo lead. Durham took advantage of catcher's interference to got back in front 5-3 in the fourth. However, Rodriguez surrendered a grand slam to IL RBI leader Mike Hessman to give the Bisons the lead for good at 7-5.

Buffalo then tacked on two more runs in the six-run fourth for a 9-5 lead, and Durham got no closer then 9-6. The Bulls did load the bases in the sixth, and had the tying run at the plate trailing 11-7, but big-league veteran Kiko Calero struck out a pair of Bulls to end the threat.

Durham did collect 11 hits and drew six walks. Justin Ruggiano, who now has a 15-game hit streak, had a pair of six singles.

Chavez had a double, and a homer, and Alvin Colina also had a pair of hits for Durham (15-8). The Bulls have dropped four of five and lost their first series of the season, as Buffalo (13-9) took three of four.
