Toledo, Ohio - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, beat the Toledo Mud Hens 2-1 on Friday night. The Chiefs runs came on a two RBI single by Pete Orr in the seventh inning. Jesse English earned the win for Syracuse in relief of starting pitcher Andrew Kown.

Both teams had slow starts to the game as the Chiefs stranded six runners in scoring position and had left six runners on base through the sixth inning. Syracuse left runners on second and third in the second inning, and stranded the bases loaded in the sixth.

Toledo (13-10) sent only nine batters to the plate through the first three innings against Kown (0-2). In the fourth, the Mud Hens had their first base runner as Will Rhymes singled to lead off, but the next three batters were retired. Toledo had runners on first and second in the fifth, but Kown worked out of that inning as well.

Syracuse (14-8) used four pitchers in relief of the starter Kown. English, who picked up the win, was followed by Drew Storen, Doug Slaten, and Joel Peralta. Storen made his first appearance at the AAA level after being promoted from AA-Harrisburg. The 10th overall selection of the 2009 draft pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs, three hits and striking out one.

Armando Galarraga (3-2) started for Toledo and took the loss. He pitched seven innings and struck out eight Chiefs batters, but surrendered two runs. The lone Toledo run came in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Brent Dlugach home run, his first of the year. Joel Peralta finished the bottom of the ninth for his fifth save of the season and giving Syracuse the win.

On Saturday, the Chiefs will open a four game series against the Columbus Clippers in Columbus, Ohio. J.D. Martin (1-0, 2.95) will start for Syracuse and Jeanmar Gomez (1-2, 5.57) will start for Columbus. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Huntington Park.
