September 25, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release
BLAINE, MN - The Amarillo Bulls surrendered two goals, 36 seconds apart, in the second period and dropped a 6-3 decision to the Minot Minotauros in their third game at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota on Friday afternoon. It was the Bulls third straight loss at the Showcase, and it dropped their overall record to 1-4. The Bulls close out the event tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9 am when they take on the winless Aston Rebels (Pregame Show Coverage 8:40 am on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Fast Hockey).
The Bulls held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first 25 minutes of the game, but it was special teams that proved to be a problem as they gave three straight goals including two on the power play. After the Bulls had closed the game to 4-3, early in the third, Minot put the game on ice by capitalizing on a turnover with four minutes remaining in regulation. Joey Molinaro, George Mika and Zach Sarnowski tallied for the Bulls, while Jacob Weatherly took the loss in goal.
It was Mika that gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead late in the first period when he scored on a slap shot from the point on the power play from Joey Molinaro and Phil Fromberger. Nearly 4 minutes later, Minot tied the game on a play at the side of the net with a power play chance of their own.
The second period again featured plenty of power plays for both teams. Zach Sarnowski gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead on a blast from the point from Tyler Hall and Jake Houston at 6:13. Minot then caught fire scoring three times including the two goals 36 seconds apart. The second one was even strength. The Bulls thought they were going to escape the period being down just a goal but the Minotauros scored in the dying seconds to make it 4-2.
Amarillo got rolling in the third period and pulled to within a goal when Molinaro scored on a strong individual play to the front of the net out-maneuvering the goaltender. Johan Lundgren and Brendan Murphy earned helpers on the play. The Bulls kept pressing looking to get the equalizer but couldn't squeeze it past Lucas Murray. In the final three minutes, Minot capitalized on a turnover to increase their lead to 5-3. The Minotauros rounded out scoring with an empty net goal as the Bulls worked furiously, looking to pull the game out in the end.
There were a total of nine power plays in the game with Minot going 3 for 5 and the Bulls were 2 for 4.
