Bullington Leads Tribe To 2-1 Win Over Braves

RICHMOND, Va. -- Right-hander Bryan Bullington retired the first 10 batters he faced to pick up his first win of the season and Indianapolis defeated Richmond 2-1 Thursday afternoon at The Diamond.
Bullington (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO), who was named the Tribe's 2007 Comeback Player of the Year, improved to 1-5 on the season. He went 11-9 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 Triple-A starts a season ago, but lost all three big league decisions en route to a 5.29 ERA.
Indians RHP Brian Rogers (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) and RHP T. J. Beam (1.0 IP, 2 SO) combined for two scoreless innings to nail down the victory after Bullington departed. Rogers picked up his second hold of the campaign, while Beam notched his second save.
The Indianapolis offense used two early runs to put away Richmond.
CF Andrew McCutchen (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) led off the contest with a single and RF Kevin Thompson walked before McCutchen stole third and scored on a single by C Michel Hernandez.
The eventual game-winning run came in the second when SS Jason Bowers (2-for-4, 1 R) smashed a two-out single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and came plateward on a McCutchen single.
Thompson later extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games and on-base streak to 25 games with an eighth-inning single.
Richmond plated its lone run in the sixth. 3B Wes Timmons (3-for-4, 1 R) blasted a one-out double and scored moments later on 1B Scott Thorman's RBI two-bagger.
Braves RHP Scott Williamson (1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Indianapolis opens an eight homestand on Friday with a 7:15 p.m. contest against IL North Division-leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. LHP Kei Igawa is scheduled to start for the Yankees, while RHP Jason Davis is expected to get the nod for the Indians.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.
