Bullfrogs Pound 'Chucks, 9-0

Coming into Friday's home opener with a 1-1 record, the Wisconsin Woodchucks looked to improve above the .500 mark early, facing the Green Bay Bullfrogs for the first of the three game series. This was no easy task for the "˜Chucks unfortunately on the home opener.

It was truly a pitchers duel, scoreless through four innings of work until the Bullfrogs got their bats going, when Ryan McCauley doubled to deep center field, scoring two, after a passed ball by the "˜Chucks catcher Mike Mierow. During the inning, Woodchucks pitcher Ryan Vetter was pulled due to injury, when a ground ball struck the shin of Vetter. 6'7 Mason Pingel was then placed in the game for the injured pitcher.

The "˜Chucks pushed on in the bottom of the fifth with a two out double by center fielder Brooks Braga, but was shut down after an inning ending called strike to 3rd basemen Greg Hamrock, leaving Braga stranded at 2nd.

The pressure stayed on in the top of the sixth inning for the Woodchucks, as the Bullfrogs, with two on, swung away and scored with a one out single. The score increased to 5-0 with only two gone in the sixth inning. The three run, on three hit inning did not end there, as a line drive to left field scored another yet another Bullfrog.

Green Bay did not stop there. Justin Seager doubled to deep center field, scoring Joel Klock from 2nd base leaving the Woodchucks down seven after the top of the eighth inning. All of Green Bay's runs Friday night came off of numerous huge two-out plays.

Woodchucks however went on the attack putting two men on in the bottom of the eighth inning, but stranded both runners, still unable to put a score on the board.

The Bullfrogs dominated the pitching game with 12 strikeouts on the night, four coming off of called strikes. Bradley Wallace was responsible for six through only three innings pitched.

The night grew longer when Bullfrogs centerfielder Nick Stein, homered to left field with a two run blast. The score grew to 9-0 and stayed that way after the smoke cleared as the "˜Chucks fell 9-0 to the Green Bay Bullfrogs opening night.

When all was said and done, the Woodchucks fell to 1-2, with their next game Monday, June 4th at home against the La Crosse Loggers.
