Bullfrogs Lose Back and Forth Battle in Wisconsin Rapids

After leading early, the Bullfrogs lost a back and forth battle against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Wednesday night. 8-6 was the final.

The Bullfrogs took an early lead in the first inning on a two run single from Bryant Burleson. The scoring remained silent until the bottom of the fourth, when the Rafters scored two of their own to tie it up.

Green Bay promptly took the lead with three more runs in the first. The first came on a solo home run from Jose Godinez, his second of the season. Two more came home on RBI from Burleson and Trevin Sonnier.

In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Rafters came back with three more runs to tie it up at 5-5. The RBI came from Taylor Stell and Donnie Dewees, who hit one of two Rafter home runs on the night.

In the seventh inning, Green Bay's Robert Youngdahl led off with his third home run of the season, making it 6-5 and closing the scoring out for Green Bay.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Rafters scored three runs to take the lead for good. Two runs were charged to starting pitcher Matt Esparza, and one to Matt Freeman, who was charged with the loss on the night.

The Bullfrogs went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings. Freeman (1-2) took the loss. The win went to the Rafters' Derek Kawlewski (1-1). Nick Pettus earned his third save of the season.

The Bullfrogs are now 11-17 on the season with seven games remaining in the first half of 2013.

The Bullfrogs return home on Thursday. Come out to Joannes Stadium for Diamond Dig Presented by Rummele's Jewelers and Thirsty Thursdays presented by Miller Lite with 106.7 WKRU with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 against Battle Creek.
