June 26, 2013 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Rafters rallied late against the Bullfrogs on Tuesday night, scoring one in the ninth to force extra innings and two more in the 12th to win it.
Green Bay started off its first matchup of the season against the Rafters flawlessly. Ben Graff (San Francisco) allowed two hits in the first, but would get out of the first half inning without harm.
The Bullfrogs got on the board first with a RBI groundout from Boomer White (TCU) to score Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame) for a 1-0 lead.
Ben Graff continued his dominance setting down eight straight batters while Green Bay added two more runs in the third inning off of a RBI single from Andrew Ely (Washington) and Tripp Martin (Samford). Those two runs gave Green Bay a 3-0 lead after three innings at Joannes Stadium.
George Ragsdale (Virginia) began the scoring for the Rafters in the fifth inning with a two RBI single to drive in Zack Belanger (Long Beach State) and Jeremy Montalbano (Texas) to narrow down the Bullfrog lead to 3-2 after five innings.
Graff continued to work with ease after the fifth, finishing the sixth inning to end his night setting himself up for the win.
Green Bay added a run in the sixth inning as Nick Torres (Cal Poly) scored on a wild pitch. In the seventh, an RBI bunt single from Andrew Ely scored Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) to give the Bullfrogs much needed insurance runs and a 5-2 lead after seven innings.
Logan West (San Francisco) came in relief to work the eighth inning for Green Bay after a scoreless seventh from Will Landsheft (Drury). West's night ended early. He gave up a two run home run to Jonathon Moroney (Texas A&M) to narrow down the Bullfrogs lead to 5-4 after the eighth.
Jonathon Tripp (Texas Tech) closed out the eighth inning and came back out to look for the save and a Bullfrogs victory, but Tripp gave up a solo home run to pinch-hitter Jackson Slaid (Montavello) to tie the game up at 5. Tripp later exited the game with an apparent left knee injury.
Green Bay was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth to lead the game to extra innings at Joannes Stadium.
It took until the 12th inning of play before the bats heated up. A double off the bat of Robbie Coman led off the inning. Coman eventually came around to score on a couple errors from the Bullfrogs for a 6-5 lead. Wisconsin Rapids brought around an insurance run for a 7-5 lead going in to the bottom of the 12th inning.
Green Bay was unable to come back to tie the game up, and fell to 11-16 on the season. The win went to J.P. Feyereisen (UW-Stevens Point), loss to Brian Trieglaff (TCU) and save to Derek Kawlewski (Indian Hills CC).
Come out to Joannes Stadium this Thursday for Diamond Dig Presented by Rummele's Jewelers and Thirsty Thursdays presented by Miller Lite with 106.7 WKRU with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 against Battle Creek.
