St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox kicked off a new series Tuesday night as they welcomed the Rochester Honkers to Joe Faber Field. The Rox come away with the win by a final score of 3-2.
With a substantial crowd at Joe Faber Field Tuesday night there was a great deal of excitement throughout the game keeping the Rox on their toes.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning as both teams were only allowing one hit in each half inning. St. Cloud took the lead in the bottom of the third as Chris Paul (So., University of California) was able to hit a one out single to get the bats swinging. Tim Colwell (Jr., North Dakota State University) and Adam Martin (Jr., Western Carolina University) both followed hitting singles with Martin's scoring Paul for a 1-0 lead over the Honkers.
Next up was Luke Weber (Jr., University of South Carolina Upstate) as he reached on an error by the second baseman, loading the bases for the Rox with one out on the board. A Rochester wild pitch would move all runners on base and Colwell scored for a 2-0 lead.
Rochester would bring the game within one at the top of the fifth off a sacrifice fly out to left field for a 2-1 game. No scoring by either team in the sixth but in the top of the seventh inning the Honkers would tie the game up at two. Rochester would score on another sacrifice fly out to left field.
The Rox kept swinging as they regained the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth as Martin earned a walk with one out on the board. Clay Williamson (So., Cal State Fullerton) came in to pinch run for Martin and advanced to second as Weber hit a single. Williamson would advance to third off a wild pitch and scored off a fielder's choice as Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest University) reached first.
St. Cloud would change a couple positions around and bring in Adam Maxon (Jr., Jacksonville University) on the mound to finish off the ninth inning. Maxon would strike out three batters to end the game.
On the mound and earning the win for the Rox was relief pitcher Reese Gregory (Fr., St. Cloud State University), recording his first win of the season in 1.0 innings of work. Maxon earned the save, which is his third of the season as he also pitched 1.0 innings. The Rox starting pitcher was Michael Healey (So., University of Connecticut) who pitched 2.0 innings and then was relieved by Tyler Wolfe (Fr., Des Moines Area Community College) for 5.0 innings of work.
