Bullfrogs Lose a Heartbreaker in Walk off Fashion
June 18, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - After a hard fought battle against the Madison Mallards, the Bullfrogs fell 4-3 on a walk off base hit by Joe Stefani (San Jose State) off of closer Harrisen Egly (Columbia). After a strong start, the Bullfrogs finished their seven game road trip on a four game losing streak.
The Bullfrogs fell behind in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly by Cameron Frost (Washington State) off of Luke Lind (North Dakota State). It would be the only run that Lind gave up in the ballgame. He went four plus innings of work, allowing two hits and striking out three.
In the sixth, newcomer Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) would make a big time statement as he sent a first pitch fastball over the left field fence for a three run home run that plated Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC) and Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne). The new first baseman impressed in his opening game for the Bullfrogs. Nieporte finished with 3 RBI and reached base in all four plate appearances.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Bullfrogs hung on to a one run lead. BJ Sabol (Indiana) was on to pitch for the Bullfrogs. After getting the first out of the inning, Sabol gave up a solo home run Stefani to tie the ballgame.
Fast forward to the ninth, the Bullfrogs threatened in the top half. They got runners at 1st and 3rd but were unable to cash in. In the bottom half of the inning, Nate Palace (Valparaiso) hit a one out double, then moved to third on a wild pitch. After tying the ballgame, Stefani had a chance to win it, and win it he did. He sent a deep fly ball over the head of Shoemaker in right field to plate the winning run.
Looking ahead, the Bullfrogs will take on the Madison Mallards once again tomorrow night at Joannes Stadium before having their first off day on Monday. This will be the Bullfrogs first game back home in a week. First pitch is 4:05pm.
