Mallards Ready for First Matchup with Bullfrogs
June 18, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
The Mallards (12-6) were able to down the Battle Creek Bombers (9-9) last night thanks to a dominant top of the order. Nico Hoerner (Stanford) and Cam Comer (Virginia) combined for six runs and four RBIs in the 10-2 victory, a game in which the team collected 13 total hits. The offense is starting to pick up some momentum, as Madison gets ready to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-12) for the first time in 2016.
Justin Watts (Northern Kentucky) will be making his fourth start for the Mallards this season, as the right-hander will be looking to finish up this homestand with another victory, the Mallards fourth in a row. Tonight, he'll matchup against a Green Bay offense that is in the bottom four teams in the Northwoods League in runs scored while hitting only .235 against right-handers.
Like the offense, the Mallards defense has also performed well as of late. While the offense has scored double-digits in two of the last three ballgames, the defense has not recorded an error during this three-game win streak. This isn't a fluke either, as the defense was able to make some spectacular plays to take away base hits in last night's victory. The Mallards are 5-0 in games where they don't commit an error.
Hoerner, Nate Palace (Valparaiso), and Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) all have streaks coming into tonight, with Hoerner recording at least two hits in four straight games, Palace hitting safely in seven straight outings, and Armstrong reaching base in every game he's played in this season, including a ten-game hit streak.
Tonight's game against the Green Bay Bullfrogs is set for 6:35 pm. Madison will wear patriotic jerseys, as it is U.S. Bank Military Appreciation Night. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game to benefit Badger Honor Fight. The game will also feature postgame fireworks, courtesy of LSM. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
