Bullfrogs Fall at Kalamazoo in Heartbreaking Walk-off Defeat

Kalamazoo, Mich. - On a 3-2 count with the bases loaded and two out, Growler third baseman Jason Sullivan laced a RBI single into left field to secure the walk-off win for Kalamazoo. The Green Bay Bullfrogs (4-7) drop a gut-wrenching contest by a final score of 3-2 to the Kalamazoo Growlers (7-4) from Homer Stryker Field. The Frogs trailed twice in the contest before knotting the score in the sixth and eighth innings.

Green Bay wraps up the two-game road series tomorrow night for a 6:05 p.m. CT first pitch from Kalamazoo. Fans can tune in to the live radio broadcast on WOCO (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.

Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) and Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) each went 1-for-3 at the plate with a single, while Tate Soderstrom (Freshman, Univ. of Arizona) tallied the lone extra-base hit with a double in a 1-for-4 effort. Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) also finished 1-for-4 with one run scored.

Both teams were held scoreless for the first four and a half innings of action before a Kalamazoo solo home run in the fifth broke the scoreless and put the Growlers ahead 1-0. The Bullfrogs answered in the sixth inning as Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) grounded into a fielder's choice to score Gonzalez from third base and even the contest at 1-1.

Kalamazoo came right back in the following frame on a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 2-1 contest. In the eighth inning, Morrison grounded into another fielder's choice at second base to plate Ethan Ibarra (Junior, St. Cloud State) from third base and tie the contest at 2-2.

The Bullfrogs went down in order offensively in the ninth inning before the Growler rally commenced in the bottom frame. Back-to-back singles, a wild pitch and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Green Bay relief pitcher Travis Kuhn (R-Freshman, San Diego) got the swinging strikeout with the bases loaded to make it two outs, setting up the game-winning hit one batter later.

Kuhn took the loss, falling to 0-1. Kalamazoo reliever Andrew Belcik earned the win, improving to 1-0. Green Bay starting pitcher Colby Morris (Junior, Middlebury College) posted a solid outing in his second start of the season, allowing one earned run on six hits with a season-high five strikeouts in five innings of work. Leo Perez (Freshman, Texas A&M Corpus Christi) gets the ball for tomorrow night's contest, making his second start on the mound this summer.
