
Former St. Cloud Rox Pitcher Ben Meyer Debuts with the Marlins

Rochester, Minn. - Former St. Cloud Rox pitcher Ben Meyer, made his Major League debut for the Miami Marlins on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Meyer is the 195th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
Meyer, who played collegiately at the University of Minnesota, played for the St. Cloud Rox in 2012. He was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 29th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
Meyer appeared in eight games for the Rox in 2012. He went 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA in 25 innings pitched.
Meyer started his Minor League career in 2015 with the Marlins Rookie level team in the Gulf Coast League. After four games he was promoted to the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the Lo-A South Atlantic League. He would appear in two games with Greensboro before ending the year with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Hi-A Florida State League. For the season he went 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA and struck out 30 batters in 35 innings while walking 14.
Meyer spent the full 2016 season back in Greensboro. He appeared in 33 games and started 10. For the season he was 4-11 with a 3.62 ERA and he had 94 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched.
For the 2017 season Meyer split time between Greensboro and Jupiter. He began the year with Greensboro and then was promoted after 12 games to Jupiter. His record for the season was 6-3 and he had a 2.02 ERA in 111.1 innings pitched. He also struck out an incredible 134 batters while walking only 23.
Prior to being called up by the Marlins, Meyer had appeared in 10 games with the New Orleans Baby Cakes of the AAA Pacific Coast League. He pitched in 10 games and was 3-4 with a 4.09 ERA. He also had 39 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched.
In his Major League debut against the St. Louis Cardinals, Meyer entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning in relief of Adam Conley. He would pitch one inning and allow no hits or runs.
