St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - Former St. Cloud Rox pitcher Ben Meyer made history on Thursday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
Meyer made his Major League Baseball debut for the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon, becoming the first Rox player to appear in the major leagues.
The right-hander pitched one shutout inning in relief during the seventh inning for the Marlins in a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Meyer gave up no hits and no walks in his first outing.
Meyer played for the Rox during the 2012 season, appearing in eight games that summer. The 2012 Opening Day starter finished with a 2-2 record, striking out 15 in 25 innings of work for St. Cloud.
Meyer appeared in 10 games with the New Orleans Baby Cakes, the Triple A affiliate of the Marlins, to start the 2018 season until getting the call up to the big leagues. During that span, he went 3-4 with 39 strikeouts and a 4.09 ERA in 50.2 innings.
The New Brighton, Minnesota native and former Minnesota Golden Gopher was drafted by the Marlins in the 29th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Meyer is one of 56 Rox players since 2013 that have heard their name called in the draft.
The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now.
