Bulldogs To Honour Three World Junior Champs On Saturday Night At Copps Coliseum

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that three members of Canada's gold medal winning team from the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships in Czech Republic will be special guests at Copps Coliseum on Saturday, February 16th when the 'Dogs take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:00 p.m. Oshawa Generals forward John Tavares, defenceman Drew Doughty of the Guelph Storm, and Niagara IceDogs winger Stefan Legein will be on hand for the game.

Tavares, Doughty and Legein, sporting their gold medals from Canada's fourth straight WJHC victory, will drop the ceremonial face-off prior to the game and take part in a first intermission autograph signing on the concourse level at Copps Coliseum. The autograph signing will be open to all fans in attendance at the game.

Tavares, 17, is currently third overall in Ontario Hockey League scoring with 95 points (33-62-95), a plus-23 rating and 55 penalty minutes in 43 games with Oshawa this season. The 6-foot, 183-pound native of Oakville, Ontario also registered four goals, an assist, five points and two penalty minutes in seven games for Team Canada at the 2008 WJHC.

Doughty, an 18-year-old native of London, Ontario, has appeared in 43 games with the Storm this season, posting 10 goals, 33 assists, 43 points and 56 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 213-pound blueliner, who was ranked second among OHL skaters on the 2008 Central Scouting preliminary rankings list released in November of 2007, is expected to be a top-five pick at the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Legein, 19, has 27 points (17-10-27), a plus-5 rating and 65 penalty minutes in 23 games with the IceDogs this season. The native of Oakville, Ontario also collected a goal, an assist, two points, a plus-2 rating and eight penalty minutes for Team Canada at the 2008 WJHC. Legein, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound right-winger, was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round, 37th overall at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tonight (Wednesday, February 13th) at 7:30 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies at Copps Coliseum.
