February 13, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release
WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr announced today that the Worcester Sharks will once again partner with the Special Olympics as the official host of the 2008 Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Winter Games the weekend of Feb 29 - March 2. The Sharks will host the Winter Games Opening Ceremonies at the DCU Center at 6:30pm on Friday, February 29th before they host the Manchester Monarchs at 8pm.
To kick off the weekend, the Worcester Sharks and a local Special Olympics bowling team will join together and hit the lanes for a unique bowling event especially planned for the media. With the success of 2007's SOMA/Sharks press conference, where the Sharks officially announced their partnership and support of Special Olympics, the 2008 "Media Event" will offer the same accessibility of major Sharks players, personnel and interviews along with fantastic photo opportunities of Sharks players and SOMA athletes.
Participants will be readily available to speak to the media during the bowling games and the media is invited to partake in the action.
In addition to the bowling games, the Sharks will unveil a unique commemorative jersey featuring the Special Olympics logo. To show their continuous support for Special Olympics, the Sharks will wear the specialty jersey during the Friday, February 29th game against the Monarchs after the Winter Games Opening Ceremony at the DCU Center. After the game, all jerseys will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Special Olympics and Sharks Charities.
