
Bulldogs Mash Monsters 3-2

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 3-2 in front of 4,672 fans at Copps Coliseum on Thursday night. David Desharnais earned three assists tonight and now ranks second on the Bulldogs all-time points list with 182 points in his 'Dogs career. Dustin Boyd also extended his league-leading goal streak to seven games with his 10th goal of the streak and season.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 8:39 of the first period. Alex Henry sent a pass to Desharnais, who dished the puck to the right side of the net, where J.T. Wyman was stationed. Wyman snapped a shot that beat Lake Erie starting goaltender Jason Bacashihua between the legs.
The Monsters tied the game 1-1 at 4:17 of the second stanza with a power-play marker. Julien Brouillette sent the puck to Matthew Ford, who blasted a one-time shot from the left point. Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer made the save, but the rebound bounced out to Mark Olver, who whacked the puck past Mayer and into the net.
The 'Dogs regained the lead at 15:13 of the middle frame with a power-play goal. Desharnais received the puck from Kyle Klubertanz, while at the right side of the net. Desharnais attempted to jam the puck past Bacashihua but was unable to. Maxwell skated towards the net before grabbing the loose puck and flipping it over the goaltender.
Lake Erie tied the game at 18:42 of the second period while on the power play. Patrick Rissmiller dished the puck to Ben Walter, who was positioned at the top of the left faceoff circle. Walter skated towards the net before snapping a shot past the blocker of Mayer.
Boyd gave Hamilton a 3-2 lead while on the power play at 1:17 of the final frame. Desharnais sent the puck to the left corner where Brendon Nash was positioned. Nash fed a pass to the center of the ice, where Boyd tapped the puck past Bacashihua and into the net.
The Bulldogs open 2011 with a game on Saturday, January 1st at 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland against the Monsters. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
