Holtby Blanks Penguins 1-0 in Pittsburgh

December 30, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release

In front of more than 13,000 fans in downtown Pittsburgh, goaltender Braden Holtby took center stage in a 1-0 HERSHEY win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The game was part of the city of Pittsburgh's celebration of hockey leading up to Saturday's NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

The game remained scoreless into the final minute of the second period, when Keith Aucoin teed up a left circle shot in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton zone. The shot deflected off a Penguin defender and onto the stick of Penguins forward Eric Tangradi. Tangradi inadvertently tipped the shot past his own goaltender Brad Thiessen for a 1-0 HERSHEY lead. The goal for Aucoin was his ninth of the year, and it came at 19:34 of the middle frame.

Neither team scored the rest of the way, as Holtby earned the shutout and his team-leading ninth win of the season. The win was HERSHEY'S first in five tries against the Penguins this season, pulling the Chocolate and White within nine points of first place in the East Division race.

BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game:
