Stars goalie Richard Bachman (13-5-2) made 38 saves and picked up an assist, holding Abbotsford scoreless for the first 51:49 of the game. The Stars extended their points streak to a season-high six games (4-0-1-1). Forwards Tomas Vincour, Fabian Brunnstrom, Ondrej Roman and Luke Gazdic each scored as Texas improved to 9-6-0-1 on the road this season. Abbotsford goalie Leland Irving (15-11-1) stopped 20 Texas shots, as the Heat's winless skid reached four games (0-3-1-0). The Stars and Heat will play again at 8:00 pm (CT) in Abbotsford on Friday night.
The Stars scored the lone goal of the first period, as Tomas Vincour put Texas on the board at 6:21. Texas center Mathieu Tousignant fired a puck at the Heat net from the corner. Abbotsford goalie Leland Irving made the save, but lost the rebound. Vincour swept the puck into the net for his fifth goal of the year and second tally in as many games. Center Aaron Gagnon added an assist on the game's first goal.
Texas expanded its lead to 2-0 at 5:44 of the second period after a power-play goal by Fabian Brunnstrom. Texas defenseman Dan Spang fired a shot to the net and the rebound trickled to the left of Heat goalie Leland Irving. Brunnstrom slipped the puck into the Abbotsford net for his seventh goal of the year and his second goal in as many games. Right wing Greg Rallo also had an assist on the play. The Stars tacked on another goal 36 seconds later to make it 3-0. Right wing Sean Backman found Ondrej Roman up the left wing boards and into the Heat zone. Roman rifled a wrist shot over the shoulder of Irving for his third goal of the season at 6:22.
The Stars added to the damage early in the third period with their fourth goal of the night. Left wing Luke Gazdic scored his fifth goal of the season just 3:38 into the period for the 4-0 lead. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and goalie Richard Bachman each picked up an assist on the team's final goal of the night. The Heat ended Richard Bachman's shutout bid at 11:49 of the third period. Forward Greg Nemisz scored a power-play goal with 9:11 left in the game for the final score of 4-1.
