Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
TORONTO, ON - Several battles broke out on the ice at RICOH Coliseum during the "Battle of Ontario" game between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Toronto Marlies, though not on the scoreboard.
Matt Frattin opened the scoring for the Marlies when he tucked the puck past Bulldogs starting netminder Robert Mayer on a wrap-around play at 3:50 into the first period. Toronto would double its lead with less than two minutes left in the period. Kelsey Wilson sent a slot pass from behind the net to Philippe Dupuis, who scored his fourth of the season.
Will Acton made it 3-0 Marlies with a wrist shot just 1:30 into the second period. Then, Dupuis took advantage of the high traffic in front of Mayer to score his second goal of the game, giving the Marlies a 4-0 lead. Nathan Lawson took over the Bulldogs net following the goal, which was scored at 3:23 into the second period.
The Bulldogs cut the Marlies' lead to 4-1 when Gabriel Dumont beat Toronto netminder Mark Owuya from the slot at 11:14 into the third period. At 11:55 into the third period, Zack FitzGerald and Aulie dropped the gloves before a general battle broke out in the 'Dogs zone, resulting in 10-minute misconducts for several players on both teams. The Marlies capitalized on the resulting 5-on-3 opportunity to add to their lead. Mike Zigomanis scored his 14th of the season on the power play to make it a 5-1 Marlies final.
The Bulldogs return to Copps Coliseum TOMORROW, Sunday, February 12th, 2012 to battle the Texas Stars at 3 p.m. Single game tickets for the 2011-2012 season are available at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, any Ticketmaster Outlet, online at ticketmaster.ca or through charge-by-phone at 1-855-872-5000.
