
IceCaps Double up on B-Sens, 6-3

ST. JOHN'S, NFLD. - The Binghamton Senators wrapped up their four game road trip with a 6-3 loss to the IceCaps Sunday afternoon at the Mile One Center in St. John's, Newfoundland. Jason Jaffray and Ben Maxwell lead the way for the IceCaps both scoring two goals with Maxwell also adding an assist to his day.
Jaffray got things started in the first period by scoring his first goal of the night on a wrister over the blocker arm of Mike McKenna on the power play at 5:14. Paul Postma received credited for the assist on the goal. With the B-Sens on a 5-on-3 power play, Josh Godfrey scored his second goal of the year, set up by Mike Hoffman and Corey Locke. Later in the first, the IceCaps reclaimed their lead capitalizing on a power play opportunity of their own. With Eric Gryba in the box for slashing, Jason King beat McKenna for his 15th goal of the year. Ben Maxwell and Jason DeSantis recorded assists on the play.
The B-Sens started the second period down two men, allowing the IceCaps to add to their lead with another power play strike, this time from Jaffray. Maxwell then scored the IceCaps first even strength goal of the night with Jason DeSantis picking up his second assist on the night on the goal.
The IceCaps kept their momentum rolling to start the third period as Carl Klingberg scored his 13th goal of the year unassisted at 2:51. Binghamton started showing some life half way through the third period as Jack Downing scored his fourth goal of the year set up by Rob Klinkhammer. 47 seconds later Derek Grant sent one home to cut the IceCaps lead to two goals. With Robin Lehner coming into the game for McKenna halfway through the third period and the IceCaps wanting the weekend sweep of the B-Sens, Ben Maxwell stepped up and put away his second goal of the night with assists coming from John Negrin and Shawn Weller.
Binghamton went 1-for-6 on the power play while the IceCaps took advantage of the B-Sens penalties scoring three goals on six power play chances.
McKenna came into the game having won three of his last four decisions. He stopped 29 of the 35 shots he faced as he fell to 13-14-0 on the season. Lehner stopped all three shots he faced. David Aebischer stopped 22 of the 25 shots he saw as he improved his record to 14-6-1 on the year.
The B-Sens return home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
