Crunch Can't Push Past Monsters

Syracuse, NY (February 12, 2012) - The Lake Erie Monsters scored twice in the second period and held on to defeat the Crunch 2-1 today at the Quicken Loans Arena.

The Crunch went one-for-six on the man-advantage in today's loss, dropping to 19-22-4-3 and extending the Crunch's losing streak to seven games.

The Monsters took a 1-0 lead early in the second period when Ryan Stoa slipped the puck past Crunch goaltender Antero Niittymaki on his blocker side just 1:25 into the period. Patrick Rissmiller added to the Monsters lead beating Niittymaki off a feed from former Crunch left wing Greg Mauldin making it 2-1 with 10:37 to play in the second stanza.

The Crunch put 19 shots on net in the second period but were unable to break through Lake Erie goaltender Gerald Coleman until 7:33 into the final frame. A power-play goal from Peter Holland cut the Monsters lead in half, but despite out shooting the Monsters 40-19 the Crunch could not find the equalizer.

Crunchables: Tonight's loss was the fourth game in a row the Crunch scored only one goal...The Crunch's last contest against the Lake Erie Monsters was a 7-0 win on October 26, 2011...
