Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Albany Devils 3-1 this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Jamie Tardif scored the lone goal for the P-Bruins. The P-Bruins are back in action Friday versus the Hershey Bears for Rally Towel Night.
Fresh off a 4-1 win at Syracuse on Saturday night, the Albany Devils found a scoring touch early. Stephane Veilleux gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 3:29 into the first frame when Mattias Tedenby found Veilleux low in the slot. On the other side, the P-Bruins were getting opportunities in front of Keith Kinkaid, but couldn't connect on bouncing pucks. However, luck proved to be on the Devil's side when they took a 2-0 lead at 6:29 when a loose puck in front deflected off a defender's skate and past Anton Khudobin. Tempers began to flare and pleasantries exchanged between the two clubs. Bobby Robins, who has a long fight card, dropped the gloves with Kory Nagy. Providence couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities and went into the first intermission trailing 2-0.
After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins came into the third period hungry to score. Providence threw pucks at Keith Kinkaid, but the goaltender was flawless between the pipes, standing on his head to keep the P-Bruins off the board. However, he couldn't keep it up as Josh Hennessy fed Tardif in the slot, allowing him to rifle a one-timer past Kinkaid. Calle Ridderwall also assisted on the play. With a new surge of momentum, the P-Bruins threw shots at Kinkaid, but couldn't get lucky as the puck hit iron and bodies in front. The Devils secured the win an empty net goal at 18:57, however the P-Bruins weren't done. Trent Whitfield was brought down on a breakaway attempt with seven seconds to play and was awarded a penalty shot. His shot was deflected wide and the Devils held onto the 3-1 win.
Khudobin's suffered the loss, stopping 22 of 24 attempts. Kinkaid's 37 saves were good enough for the win.
The P-Bruins are back in action with three games next weekend. The club opens the weekend at The Dunk on Friday versus the Hershey Bears, who sit in second place in the East Division. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Rally Towel Night. Rally Towels, courtesy of Cool Air Creations and Benjamin Moore, are free to the first 2,000 fans. The team is on the road in Springfield on Saturday. The P-Bruins close out the week at The Dunk on Sunday in a 4:05 p.m. match up with the Connecticut Whale for MetLife Plush Snoopy Night, which are free to the first 1,000 fans.
