Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

Toronto, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. The Bulldogs earned a point in the loss which clinched first place in the North Division for the team. This is the club's third division title in franchise history as they won the Canadian Division in 2002-2003 and the North Division in 2003-2004.

The Marlies got on the scoreboard first, 13 seconds into the game. Tom Brent sent the puck to Phil Oreskovic, who was positioned at the right point. Oreskovic blasted a shot on net that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins through the legs.

The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 10:35 of the middle frame with a shorthanded marker. Ryan Russell raced down the ice with the puck and faked a pass before rifling a shot past the blocker of Toronto starting goaltender Joey MacDonald.

Brent regained Toronto's lead at 1:20 of the third period. A Bulldogs defender mishandled the puck behind the Hamilton net, allowing Brent to grab the loose puck and fire a slapshot over the glove of Desjardins.

The 'Dogs tied the game 2-2 at 9:53 of the third period. Andrew Conboy received the puck from Frederic St. Denis before skating down the left side boards. Conboy fired a shot that bounced off the leg of a Toronto defender and past MacDonald.

Toronto regained the lead at 11:22 of the final frame. Andre Deaveaux released a shot that was stopped by Desjardins but the goaltender could not control the rebound. Ryan Hamilton grabbed the loose rebound before shovelling the puck past Desjardins.

Brock Trotter scored the Bulldogs third goal of the game at 13:10 of the last stanza. Mike Glumac carried the puck behind the Toronto net before sending a cross-crease pass to Trotter, who was stationed at the right side of the net. Trotter tapped the pass across the goal line to make the game 3-3.

The teams went to overtime but neither club could score sending the game to a shootout. Tim Brent and Josh Engel scored for Toronto while MacDonald denied all four Hamilton shooters to win the game for the Marlies.
