Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The Texas Stars proved to be too much for the Rockford IceHogs, as the Stars shut out the IceHogs 2-0 on Saturday at the Rockford MetroCentre.
"They play a smart defensive game," defenseman Richard Petiot said. "They don't give up a whole lot and really pack it in, in our offensive zone. They blocked a lot of shots. Offensively we just have to get some dirty goals. We just have to find a way to get it through."
The game marks the forth time on the season that the IceHogs have been blanked, two have come at the hands of the Texas Stars. The other two were by the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Texas got off to a quick start with a goal less than one minute into the game. Mathieu Beaduoin scored his 17th goal of the season, assisted by Andrew Hutchinson and Perttu Lindgren.
Then just as a Stars power play expired in the second period, the Hogs couldn't clear the puck, and Texas tacked on one more. Lindgren picked up a feed from Travis Morin at 8:14 and one-timed the puck past Corey Crawford on the short side. Hutchinson was also credited with an assist, marking his 25th assist on the season.
That was all that Texas needed as the IceHogs had chances but couldn't break Brent Krahn.
"We have to get traffic in front of him and shoot to score every time," Petiot said. "We had a few chances to score tonight and he made some great saves."
Krahn turned away 29 shots to pick up his 14th win on the season and fourth straight since returning from injury, while Crawford stopped 20 shots in a losing effort.
Both teams' special teams were a non-factor as Rockford was 0-for-5 and Texas was 0-for-3.
Next Home Game: Friday, March 26 vs. Peoria Rivermen. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Rivermen meet for the final time in 2009-10, the teams' tenth overall meeting. The first 2,500 fans to the MetroCentre will receive an IceHogs Zamboni courtesy of ESPN Radio 1380 and FOX 39.
