Albany River Rats News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY-Jonathan Cheechoo scored the short-handed game-winner in the second period as the Binghamton Senators defeated the Albany River Rats 2-1 on Saturday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Senators leading scorer Martin St. Pierre also scored for Binghamton, which won its second straight game. Defenseman Jonathan Paiement scored Albany's lone goal, as the River Rats lost their second in-a-row. The teams play again on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Times Union Center.

St. Pierre scored the first period's only goal at 13:32, intercepting a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone and beating Albany goaltender Mike Morrison to the stick side on the ensuing breakaway. Binghamton doubled its lead at 5:12 of the second period, when Morrison mishandled a dump-in behind the goal line and watched Jonathan Cheechoo spin a shot into his vacated net.

Albany clawed to within a goal on a fluky play at 9:01 of the middle frame, when Oskar Osala's shot vanished into B-Sens goalie Chris Holt's head gear before falling into the cage, but the River Rats could not mount a comeback in the final period.

River Rats 2010 Calder Cup playoff packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
