NORFOLK, VA - Rookie goalie Carter Hutton made 23 saves in his professional debut, but the Adirondack Phantoms fell short 3-1 to the Norfolk Admirals Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

The Admirals were on their game right from the opening face off, looking as though they wanted to really test rookie goalie Carter Hutton, who was making his pro debut. Hutton was solid early, but Norfolk cashed in with a goal at 7:14 as Admirals captain Ryan Craig poked in a loose puck after Hutton had stopped a wrap-around attempt from Dana Tyrell. But the Phantoms responded by picking up their game and turning the tides in the second half of the period. Ryan Dingle, in for injured center Josh Beaulieu, made his impact felt immediately as he danced around one Norfolk defender and then fired a backhand shot from the slot passed goaltender Dustin Tokarski at 14:39. Dingle's goal, his fifth of the season, was assisted by Garrett Klotz and Joonas Lehtivuori, squaring the game at 1-1.

Adirondack turned up the pressure in the second period, out-shooting the Admirals 10-5 and limiting their scoring chances on Hutton. However, with a mere 17 seconds left in the frame, Norfolk won a face off in the offensive zone, fired a quick shot on net that was blocked in front by defenseman Kevin Marshall. The rebound kicked out to the slot where Adam Hall collected it and fired it in to the net at 19:43 for a 2-1 Admirals lead.

The Phantoms continue to press for an equalizer in the third period, out-shooting their hosts 15-10, but Tokarski was solid, stopping everything he faced in the frame. With time winding down, Adirondack pulled Hutton for the extra attacker, only to have the puck iced and Dana Tyrell won the foot race to the loose puck for an empty net goal at 19:18, capping off a 3-1 score.

Dustin Tokarski finished with 38 saves on 39 shots to record his 24th win of the year as Norfolk improved to 36-29-3-3. Carter Hutton impressed in his professional and AHL debut, stopping 23-of-25 shots, but was tagged with the loss as Adirondack dropped to 30-34-3-3 on the year. The Phantoms out-shot the Admirals 39-26 in the game and went 0-for-1 on the power play; Norfolk did not have a man-advantage in the game. With just one minor penalty in the contest, an interference minor to Vladimir Mihalik at 9:44 of the second period, Adirondack played their first game of the season without a penalty and it was a season-low of just two combined penalty minutes.

The Phantoms complete their three-game weekend trip on Sunday, March 21st as they face the Hershey Bears for a 5:00 pm face off at the Giant Center. Adirondack's next home game comes on Wednesday, March 24th as they host the Albany River Rats for a 7:00 pm face off at the Civic Center for Round Ten of the Time Warner Cable Cup Series.
