Rockford, IL - The Texas Stars (39-23-3-4, 85 Points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (40-27-3-3, 86 Points) 2-0 on Saturday night in front of 4,673 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre. Texas goalie Brent Krahn (14-2-0) stopped all 29 Rockford shots, including 14 in the third period to earn his fourth shutout of the year and 17th of his pro career. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson set up both goals, helping the Stars move within a point of second place in the West Division. Center Perttu Lindgren scored a goal and added an assist as Texas moved to 6-1-0-0 against Rockford this year and 17-12-2-2 on the road this year. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin also added a goal, as the Stars reduced their magic number to 12 points in order to clinch a Calder Cup Playoff spot. IceHogs goalie Corey Crawford (20-15-2) made 20 saves in the loss. Texas continues a seven-game road trip in Peoria on Sunday, March 21st at 3:00 PM.
Texas opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Texas Stars right wing Mathieu Beaudoin tallied his 17th goal of the year just 59 seconds into the game. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson launched a shot from the right wing circle that was deflected by goalie Corey Crawford. Beaudoin picked up the rebound in the left-wing circle and blasted a shot past Crawford, beating him stick side for the 1-0 Stars lead.
In the second period, Texas expanded its lead to 2-0 with an even-strength goal at 8:14 by Perttu Lindgren. Forward Travis Morin scooped up the puck in the Rockford zone and found Lindgren for a cross-ice feed on the backdoor. Lindgren fired a one-timer past Rockford's Corey Crawford for his 12th goal of the year and a 2-0 Texas lead.
After making 15 saves through two periods of play, Texas goalie Brent Krahn made 14 saves in the third period to preserve the shutout and the Texas win.
