Bulldogs Drop First Game of the Season 4-3 in Overtime

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated for the first time this season, suffering a 4-3 overtime loss to their North Division rival Toronto Marlies. Yanick Lehoux and Matt D'Agostini's three point nights were not enough as the Bulldogs four-game winning steak came to an end in front of 1,780 at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Marlies scored the first power-play goal of the season against the Bulldogs to open the game's scoring at 11:02 of the opening stanza. Juha Uotila blasted a shot from the point that was tipped by Andre Deveaux past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. Toronto added their second goal of the period with Mark Bell's first goal of the season at 16:14. Mark Bell banked a shot off a Hamilton defender for the power-play marker and to give the Marlies the 2-0 lead.

Hamilton cut the lead to one while shorthanded at 7:55 of the second stanza. Lehoux skated past the Toronto defencemen to gain a breakaway on Toronto starting goaltender Justin Pogge. Lehoux snapped the puck past Pogge to make the game 2-1.

The Bulldogs took the lead with two goals to start the third period. Chad Anderson tied the game 2-2 at 6:54 of with his first goal of the season. D'Agostini sent a pass to Anderson who ripped a shot that caught Pogge by surprise and sailed over his left shoulder. Lehoux gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead at 9:41 of the third period with his second goal of the game and team-leading fourth goal of the season. Lehoux grabbed a loose rebound and banked it off the Toronto netminder. D'Agostini earned an assist on the goal, for his third assist of the night.

Toronto knotted the game 3-3 with their third power-play marker of the game at 11:20 of the final stanza. Jeremy Williams rifled a shot that beat Desjardins and into the top of the net. Kris Newbury and Mark Bell also earned assists on the play.

The game went to extra minutes where Jeremy Williams notched his second goal of the game at 4:13 of the extra frame. Williams received the puck from Kris Newbury before performing a nifty deke and sending the puck over the shoulder of Desjardins.

The Bulldogs travel to Grand Rapids for a match-up with the Griffins on Saturday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
