Bulldogs blanked by Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Hamilton Bulldogs lost 2-0 to the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena on Saturday night. With the loss, the Bulldogs record drops to 21-12-1-1.

Grand Rapid's registered the only two goals of the game in the first period.

Kip Miller opened the scoring with his team-leading 14th goal of the season at the 14:02 mark of the first frame. Kyle Quincey earned the lone assist on the goal.

Matt Ellis then posted his 11th goal of the campaign with only three seconds remaining in the frame on the power play. Ellis picked up his own rebound after his initial shot was stopped by ‘Dogs netminder Yann Danis and made no mistake to put the Griffins up 2-0. Miller earned his second point of the game by picking up a helper on the goal.

Neither team was able to score in the second or third periods.

Danis made 29 saves on 31 shots and was named the ‘Pearson Dunn Hardest Working Bulldog of the Game' in a losing effort for the Bulldogs. Stefan Liv turned aside all of the 24 shots he faced for the Griffins, picking up his first shutout and third win of the season.

Hamilton went 0-for-7 on the power play while Grand Rapids was 1-for-6 with the man-advantage.

The last time the Bulldogs were shutout was in Hershey on December 17th, 2005, when Hamilton lost 4-0 to the Bears.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night (Sunday, December 31st) at 6:00 p.m. when they travel to Peoria to take on the Rivermen in a New Years Eve tilt at Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center.
