Budweiser Man of the Match: Jimmy Ockford Stands out in Nashville SC Debut vs. Memphis
July 18, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
MEMPHIS - Defender Jimmy Ockford had himself quite the debut for Nashville SC, netting what would eventually become the match-winning goal in the first half of a 2-0 win over Memphis 901 FC. He was voted Budweiser Man of the Match for his efforts.
Ockford was a stalwart on the back line for all 90 minutes in his first match after being acquired on short-term loan, but his biggest impact came on the offensive end near the end of the first half. In the 42' minute, Lebo Moloto sent in a free kick that Ockford got his foot to at the center of the box and tapped home to give Nashville the early lead.
With the goal, Ockford became the fourth player in club history to score in his Nashville SC debut, joining Brandon Allen (May 23, 2018 vs. Mississippi Brilla in USOC Third Round), Daniel Ríos (March 9, 2019 vs. Loudoun United FC) and Cameron Lancaster (March 9, 2019 vs. Loudoun United FC).
With one match and one goal under his belt for Nashville SC, Ockford will look to continue his strong run in a gold shirt against Indy Eleven at Nissan Stadium on July 27.
