EL PASO - San Antonio FC (6-8-5) beat El Paso Locomotive FC (7-5-7) 3-1 at Southwest University Park on Wednesday night. A brace from forward Frank Lopez in his club debut along with a goal from forward Bradford Jamieson IV earned the Alamo City club its first victory on the road.
"We felt that this has been a long time coming, to get our first three points on the road against a very well-coached and talented El Paso team," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "I'm extremely proud of the way our guys applied themselves tonight on both sides of the ball. They were very committed, organized, and disciplined, and when you play road games on tough environments you have to do that."
SAFC opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the match when midfielder Cristian Parano collected the ball at midfield and dribbled past a few defenders to get into the box. The Argentinian took a shot on target but the save was spilled by Locomotive FC goalkeeper Logan Ketterer, which Lopez pounced on and slotted into the back of the net to open his account for the Alamo City club.
The hosts equalized in the 28th minute when defender Andrew Fox found the ball inside the SAFC box following chaos after a corner and buried a shot past goalkeeper Matthew Cardone to make it 1-1.
Lopez then bagged his second goal of the night in the 45th minute after Jamieson IV played him in on goal with an aerial through-ball, which the Cuba native finessed past Ketterer to make it 2-1. Lopez's brace marks the first on a debut night for a San Antonio FC player since forward Jason Johnson achieved the feat in the club's inaugural match on April 3, 2016.
Following a short weather delay in the 50th minute, the Alamo City club extended its lead in the 52nd minute after resuming play when midfielder Billy Forbes dribbled past a Locomotive FC defender and into the box, from where he squared a pass to find Jamieson IV, who finished to give SAFC the 3-1 lead and score his fifth goal of the season.
San Antonio FC is now 2-0-1 when playing on Wednesday's this season and will return to USL Championship action on Saturday, July 20 as they visit Orange County SC.
