Pickens, Tribbett, Davis Named to USL Championship All-Opta First Team
November 6, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - The stats don't lie, and Matt Pickens, Ken Tribbett and Justin Davis put up big numbers in 2019 to earn their way onto USL Championship's alternative First Team. In addition to its customary end-of-season awards, the league mixed things up this year with a data-centered Best XI that is completely stat driven by Opta metrics. The distinguished group, dubbed the All-Opta First Team, is made up of eleven players with the highest average rating using the system's 10-point scale.
Qualifiers for the All-Opta Team include having at least 1,530 minutes played (50% of the minues in a 34-game regular season) and a certain number of appearances in their position to be considered representative of their year.
Here's why Pickens, Tribbett and Davis made the list:
GK - Matt Pickens (overall rating 6.87): Pickens' Golden Glove award speaks for itself, but in addition to his stellar goals against average of 0.64, the goalkeeper hade a save percentage of 79.75 which was four percent better than any other goalkeeper who recorded at least 50 saves in the regular season.
CB - Ken Tribbett (overall rating 7.21): Thought Tribbett played in 25 of the 34 matches due to a mid-season injury, he contributed to the team's rock-solid defense whenever he was on the field. The defender won 69% of aerials and 65% of duels while averaging 6.7 recoveries per game.
FB - Justin Davis (overall rating 7.22): As a defender, Davis contributed on both ends of the field. He racked up five assists and created 44 chances on offense while winning 76.9 percent of tackles, which was fourth highest among those with at least 35 tackles in the regular season.
The USL Championship All-League Teams will be revealed next week ahead of the USL Championship Final on Sunday, Nov. 17.
