Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - With the official All-USL Championship All-League Teams announcements still to come next week, Rowdies midfielder Leo Fernandes did receive a nice recognition Tuesday with the release of the Opta First and Second XI.
Using the stats tracked by Opta in every USL Championship match this season, each player in the league was given a rating on a 10-point scale for their performance in a given game.
After averaging each player's match ratings, players that played at least 50 percent of the minutes during a 34-game regular season were awarded spots in the First and Second XI.
Fernandes, with an average rating of 7.42 from Opta, is the only Rowdies player to earn a spot in either team. He was one of just five players to record double-digit assists this season, while also adding four goals from the wingback position.
His 7.42 rating makes him the fourth-best player in the USL Championship last season, trailing only Phoenix's Solomon Asante (8.19) and Junior Flemmings (7.46), as well as Ottawa Fury FC's Carl Haworth (7.47).
Of the 22 players named to the Opta First or Second XI, 13 played in the Eastern Conference, compared to nine in the West.
