Week in Review

The Buccaneers were trying to get back in the win column this past weekend as they came into Friday's game with a five-game losing streak as they took on the Omaha Lancers at 95KGGO Arena. The Bucs started out on top after defenseman Bobby Reiners (1) found the net from the blue line early in the first period. Omaha was able to score a goal in each the second and third period despite being outshot by the Bucs in those periods.

The Buccaneers took on the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets on Saturday night and snuck away with a 4-3 overtime victory. The Bucs got on the board late in the first period when Andrew Blazek(4) scored on a breakaway with only 12 seconds remaining to go in the period. Defenseman Austin Handley (1) tallied a power play goal and forward Chris Knowlton (4) scored a shorthanded goal to put the Bucs up 3-0. Ohio was able come back in the third by scoring three goals to tie the game and sent the game to overtime. In overtime, Brett Bruneteau(2) scored the game-winning goal to give the Bucs their first win since Nov. 10 when they defeated Lincoln 3-2.

Simon Reaches Milestone

Des Moines Buccaneers Head Coach and General Manager Regg Simon reached his 100th victory as a United States Hockey League head coach. His win came on Saturday, December 1 as the Bucs defeated Ohio by a score of 4-3 in overtime.

Simon's coaching career began in Tri-City where he took over for Jim Hillman 24 games into the 2002-03 season in which he led the Storm to 19 wins. He stepped into his current position after Ferguson resigned midway through the 2004-05 season.
