Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
For the second time at Ralston Arena the Omaha Lancers got a late goal to force overtime, but this time it was the Buccaneers with the overtime winner and the victory.
Omaha jumped all over Des Moines in the first period as Brian Williams scored 5:10 into the period and Mitch Perrault scored a 5 on 3 power play goal to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. However the Buccaneers flipped the script in the second period as they outshot Omaha 14 to 6 and capitalized on two goals in short order. Ty Pelton-Byce with his back to goaltender Zack Skog flipped around and threw a shot to the netminder that left the Lancer down and out and allowed David Keefer to bury a goal into the empty net at 15:59 of the 2nd period. Just 31 seconds later Patrick Grasso took a feed from Georgy Gorodetsky and skated all alone through the slot before backhanding a shot just under the crossbar to tie the game at 2. It was the team-leading 6th point for both Grasso and Gorodetsky.
Zach Jordan appeared to have scored the game-winner when he followed up a strong move by Nikita Pavlychev that left a loose puck in the crease 18:34 into the 3rd period. However the Lancers pulled their goalie and scored an extra attacker goal by Mitch Perrault at 19:01 of the period to force overtime.
Seven minutes of back and forth action with few whistles lead to a shootout, where Jan Ruzicka stole the show. Alec Rauhauser scored the lone goal of the shootout in the 5th round and Ruzicka stopped all 5 shots he faced to allow the Bucs to skate off with the extra point.
Up next for the Buccaneers is a Tuesday night game in Lincoln on October 27th. Tune in for the action on 1700 KBGG.
