Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (5-3-0) will attempt to rebound after dropping their first game since Oct. 3 when they host the Chicago Steel (3-6-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Alliant Energy Center. Dogs will be among the Caps fans inside the Coliseum for Animart's Pucks N' Paws night.

Chicago is looking for any kind of success for their three-game weekend after falling to Madison on Friday, 2-1, as well as dropping a 4-1 decision on Saturday night in Green Bay against the Gamblers.

Madison, on the other hand, is looking to rediscover its offensive firepower. After scoring 21 goals over the first four games of their franchise-record five game winning streak, the Capitols have only lit the lamp three times in the past two nights. The forward unit featuring Haralds Egle & Charlie Gerard continues to shine, as Egle has picked up assists on all three Capitol goals on the weekend, while Gerard extended his point streak to three games with a goal on Saturday against Bloomington.

Goaltending has remained a strong suit for the Capitols this weekend. Garrett Metcalf was outstanding, stopping 30 Chicago shots in a nail-biting 2-1 win on Friday, while Ryan Edquist was just as tremendous in stopping 39 pucks in a 2-1 defeat last night. It was Edquist's first loss in the USHL in perhaps his finest outing.

The Capitols' special teams have experienced a role reversal this weekend as well. A power play that began the season 7-of-19 has failed to strike on each of its last 10 tries. Meanwhile, the penalty kill has had far more work in the past four games, but has stabilized, killing off 18 of the last 20 opponent power plays.

Madison enters play on Sunday resting third in the USHL's Eastern Conference standings at 5-3-0, just a point behind the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (5-2-1), who have lost three games in succession. The Steel have fallen to eighth place by virtue of their back-to-back regulation defeats on the road.

After the three-game, three-night weekend concludes, Madison has a quieter Halloween weekend, hosting just one game on Friday, Oct. 30 against the Omaha Lancers at the Alliant Energy Center with a 7 p.m. start time. Fans are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes and bring the kids for trick-or-treating on the main concourse. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster, www.MadCapsHockey.com, or by dialing (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
